Degree in Computer Science (1996), PhD in Computer Science (2001), Master’s Degree in Computer Science (2003).

Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Bari, where he is responsible for the ARA research laboratory.

From 2006 to 2018 Director/Coordinator of the Interdepartmental Centre for Logic and Applications at the University of Bari. Contact person of the UniBA node of the National Laboratory on “Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems” of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics.

His research interests cover various areas of Artificial Intelligence, specifically Algebraic and Logical Foundations of Machine Learning, Inductive Logic Programming, Theory Revision, Multi-strategic Learning, Knowledge Representation.

Areas of application include Digital Document Processing and Electronic Libraries, Bioinformatics, Agri-Food Industry, Intelligent Environments, Environment and Territory, Process Mining.

Stefano is involved in dozens of national and international scientific projects, including in leadership roles.

Co-author of over 350 monographs and articles in national and international journals, books and conference proceedings.

Associate Editor of 2 international journals, and member of the organisation of national and international scientific journals and conferences.

Since 2011 member of the Board of Directors, and since 2015 treasurer, of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence.
