In the current context, it was important to redefine and certify the role of the Professional Communicator and specifically of the Technical Communicator.

Today, communication plays an increasingly important and delicate role and must therefore be entrusted to experienced professionals.

A lack of or inadequate awareness of the importance of communication has created gaps which this Standard covers by clearly identifying the requirements, knowledge and skills to be put in place to design and implement communication projects in businesses, organizations and institutions.

The Italian Standard on the Professional Communicator identifies the knowledge and skills needed by the Professional Communicator and, more specifically, by the Technical Communicator to design and develop communication projects according to precise stages and with skills and expertise at various levels.

The new business models for companies, based on new values to be built and communicated, require professionalism, competences and specific ongoing training to promote professionally and effectively and to sell products and services successfully.

The Standard identifies 5 areas including Technical Communication.

With the five areas identified, we respond to the interests and technical, specific and economic aspects of the professionals we represent, satisfying the current needs of the market.

EMBROIDERING TECHNICAL INFORMATION WITH THE DIGITAL THREAD

11:45 ÷ 13:15

Technical documentation cannot be today considered independently of new technologies like IoT, Digital twin, Assisted or Augmented Reality which are now on available for field or remote technicians. That means that each piece of information shall be repurposed to, or articulated with other delivery media, to provide the most efficient experience to the end users, depending on the operational context. That also means that, for insuring information consistency among media and product configurations, the service information creation process shall be integrated to the documented product definition process, from early definition to final delivery.

That’s the Digital Thread.

During this workshop, we’ll review the points of attention, the good practices and the technical solutions to consider when building a future proof content strategy, to make sure the Digital Thread will not be broken.

Today, users of products and services and operators require and expect more understandable, usable, immediate and easy to assimilate communication and technical documentation in order to act and operate in the shortest possible time.

To achieve this result it is necessary to design and implement communication and product information with different characteristics than in the past.

Technical communication and technical information that accompany connected and technologically more advanced products must be equally advanced and appropriate to the products described and to their use.

The most recent standards, precisely in the sessions regarding the quality of information, finally introduce concepts and requirements of Completeness, Minimalism, Correctness, Conciseness, Consistency, Unambiguity, Readability, Comprehensibility and Accessibility, also for the purposes of recovery/repeatability, cost and time optimization processes.

The ITS Italiano Tecnico Semplificato (The Technical Simplified Italian) meets all these requirements and the needs of users / customers, professionals in technical communication and documentation, including technical translators and localizers, machine manufacturers, producers, and service and software providers.

The Safety of Information and Use also passes through and depends on the Clear, Controlled, Simplified and therefore Effective Communication that we, all, have to realize to meet legal requirements and market needs.

The “Corrige.it” solution supports all the above by evaluating the readability and comprehensibility of the information in a scientific and objective manner, also thanks to the ITS instructions in the parameters and evaluation criteria.

This contribution deals with the development of a method, a solution and a project by COM&TEC that is important and of great support to the sector of Technical Communication and Documentation in Italy today.

INTELLIGENT CONTENT DELIVERY: THE IMPACT OF PROCESS MINING ON TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION AND USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN
INTELLIGENT CONTENT DELIVERY: THE IMPACT OF PROCESS MINING ON TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION AND USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN

17:15 ÷ 18:00

Gustav Verhulsdonck – Central Michigan University

This presentation aims to give an overview of the typical process mining approaches embraced by industry and SMEs.

As big data capabilities and the Internet of Things (IoT) can capture various activities by people, machines, and software, an increasing need exists to analyze various processes as real-time events.

Process mining is used to analyze such events, e.g. data from various streams to help model existing processes, check compliance, identify bottlenecks, and to enhance these processes.

The goal of process mining is to extract data related to processes, create event logs, and to mine (analyze) these to develop innovations. As IoT processes combine data from people, content, devices and cloud technologies with data from various sensors, process mining can help model and track what people did, how they accessed content, which technologies they used, where they were and for how long.

As such, process mining has an important role in clarifying which actions take place and how people respond, which is also important for technical communicators to deliver intelligent content.

In essence, process mining is a data analytic way of looking at various processes. As technical communicators, together with UX designers, are increasingly asked to consider data analytics in their work to address users, they may also be asked to embrace process mining to explain how users are interacting with specific aspects of a process or software.

This presentation will focus on a client-based project involving process mining. The audience to this presentation will walk away with a better understanding of what process mining is, and the importance of process mining for technical communicators and user experience design in embracing intelligent content paradigms.

Paolo Zuccarelli – Engineer / Trainer

The subject of machinery safety still highlights several critical issues. The cause of such critical issues must be sought in particular in their intrinsic constructive and functional characteristics, in the incorrect behavior of the operators, in the lack of knowledge of the accompanying documentation, in an incorrect approach by the profiles that intervene in the manufacturing, distribution and use processes and in the validation system of their conformity.

In this regard, this presentation provides information on the correct interpretation and application of current legislation, clarifies the meaning of terms such as Objective Protection and Presumption of Conformity, highlights the limits of the CE marking and indicates an overall safety management procedure in the company, including the phases of purchase and maintenance of the machinery.

SAFETY SIGNS – FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE DESIGN OF NEW SAFETY SIGNS AND LABELS COMPLIANT WITH ISO 3864-1-2-3 STANDARDS

17:40 ÷ 18:30

Paolo Antonio Tobaldo – TECNEW

Much of the safety signs that we see applied to machines and products or that are used in technical documentation do not comply with current legislation and standards.

Compliant signage represents a real language to communicate safety messages in an efficient and effective way.

This “language of symbols” has the advantage of communicating the meaning of the different signals without the aid of the written text. The different languages therefore no longer represent an obstacle to understand safety messages.

We must not limit ourselves to using commercially available signs, which are often non-compliant, repealed and too general.

The ISO 3864-1-2-3 standards allow us to create new signs dedicated to specific hazards, obligations and prohibitions. By the use of 280 “registered” signs of the ISO 7010 standard including the new dedicated signs, we can create safety labels for each type of product.

Only the use of compliant safety signs can guarantee communicative effectiveness to our technical communication and documentation ensuring the understanding of safety messages all over the world.
